Ghaziabad Tragedy: Man Jumps to Death, Mother Found Dead in Flat Days Later
In a shocking incident in Ghaziabad, a 42-year-old man jumped to his death from the 13th floor of a high-rise building in Kavi Nagar's Mahagunpuram society on Thursday afternoon. The tragedy deepened when police, upon checking his ground-floor flat, discovered the body of his mother lying in bed, estimated to have been dead for approximately two days.
Details of the Incident
According to authorities, the deceased has been identified as Rajveer Chawala, who resided in the flat with his 70-year-old mother, Satnam Kaur. Chawala was married but had been separated from his wife for some time. He worked as an astrologer and podcaster, but had allegedly ceased working in recent months, reportedly grappling with depression and financial difficulties.
Around 2 PM on Thursday, witnesses dialed emergency number 112 to report a suicide in the society. A police team swiftly arrived at the scene and ascertained that Chawala lived in a ground-floor unit of the Vinayak tower. He had ascended to the 13th floor of the same tower before taking the fatal leap.
Police Investigation and Findings
ACP (Kavi Nagar) Suryabali Maurya provided details, stating, "He fell onto the tin sheds constructed below. The loud impact alerted the security guard and nearby residents, who rushed to the spot and found Chawala injured. The police, upon arrival, immediately transported him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead."
Subsequently, officers entered Chawala's flat and found his mother's body on the bed. It was sent for autopsy, with preliminary estimates indicating she had been deceased for about two days. No visible injury marks were observed on her body, but the exact cause of death remains undetermined pending autopsy results.
"A forensic team was summoned to the location and collected samples from the flat. We have sent Kaur's body for autopsy, and reports are awaited, along with Chawala's. The autopsy report will clarify the reason for Kaur's death," added ACP Maurya.
Background and Statements
Chawala's estranged wife informed the police that he had been struggling with depression and financial issues. A neighbor, who requested anonymity, mentioned that Chawala had not been seen leaving his flat for several days prior to the incident, adding to the mystery surrounding the events.
