Major Fire Incident in Ghaziabad's Sadarpur Village
A dangerous fire erupted on Tuesday evening in Ghaziabad's Sadarpur village when a tractor loaded with hay caught fire on NDRF Road. The flames quickly leaped to a nearby house and an adjoining shop where LPG cylinders were stored, creating a potentially explosive situation that required immediate emergency response.
Emergency Response and Firefighting Efforts
Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal reported that the Kotwali fire station received an emergency call at 7:04 PM and immediately dispatched one fire tender and one water bowser to the location. An additional fire tender stationed at Kavi Nagar was also rushed to the spot to assist with the operation.
"When our team reached the scene, the hay-laden tractor was tilted toward a residential house, and the fire was spreading rapidly inside the structure," Pal explained. Firefighters immediately deployed two hose pipes and began pumping water to contain the advancing flames.
Critical Situation with LPG Cylinders
The situation became particularly hazardous when the fire spread to a shop adjacent to the affected house. Inside this shop, emergency responders discovered two empty LPG cylinders and one fully filled gas cylinder that were at risk of exploding due to the intense heat.
"Our personnel acted swiftly to remove all three cylinders from the shop before they could become explosive hazards," Pal stated. "We then successfully extinguished the fire in both the house and shop, and also managed to put out the blaze in the hay-laden tractor within approximately one hour of our arrival."
Investigation into Fire Origin and Property Damage
According to preliminary findings from the fire department investigation, the blaze appears to have started when the hay on the tractor came into contact with a high-tension power line running above the road. This electrical contact likely ignited the dry hay, which then spread rapidly due to the combustible nature of the material.
House owner Yudhveer Singh reported that the tractor driver fled the scene immediately after the fire started, abandoning the burning vehicle on the road. "We attempted to douse the flames ourselves and also informed police by dialing the emergency number 112," Singh said.
The fire caused significant property damage, including a window in one room of the house and various household items that were destroyed when the tractor tilted and the flames reached the residential structure. Shop owner Ashish Goyal managed to save some of his belongings, including cash, before the fire was brought under control by emergency responders.
Broader Fire Statistics for the District
Chief Fire Officer Pal provided additional context about fire incidents across Ghaziabad district on Tuesday, noting that a total of 15 fire incidents had been reported until 7 PM that evening. Fortunately, none of these incidents resulted in any casualties.
Pal highlighted two other significant fires that occurred in Crossings Republik area on the same day. One blaze gutted approximately 20 shops in Tyagi Market, while another fire broke out in a flat at Ajnara Gen-X residential complex. These incidents underscore the ongoing fire safety challenges facing the rapidly developing district.
The prompt response by Ghaziabad's fire department prevented what could have been a catastrophic situation, particularly given the presence of LPG cylinders in close proximity to the spreading flames. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, proper storage of combustible materials, and maintaining safe distances between vehicles and electrical infrastructure.
