Generator Spark Ignites Devastating Fire and Explosions in Abohar Residence
A terrifying incident unfolded in Abohar on Tuesday night when a spark in a generator wire ignited a fierce fire that subsequently triggered powerful blasts inside a residential house. The catastrophic event, which occurred in the Patel Park area, left four individuals with severe burn injuries, casting a pall of shock over the local community.
Eyewitnesses Describe Doors Blown Off in Violent Explosion
According to eyewitness accounts from the scene, the force of the explosions was so immense that it blew the doors clean off the affected house and caused significant damage to nearby shops. The fire brigade responded promptly to the emergency, rushing to the site and working diligently to extinguish the raging flames that threatened to spread further.
Victims Suffer Extensive Burns, One Critical with 95% Injuries
The human toll of this disaster is severe. Three of the injured persons were immediately admitted to Abohar Civil Hospital for urgent medical treatment. However, the condition of one victim, identified as Puja, is particularly grave. She sustained catastrophic burns covering 95% of her body and has been transferred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for specialized, intensive care.
Among those injured were a man who was operating a tandoor in a shop close to the explosion site and a customer who was present at the time of the incident, highlighting how the blast's impact extended beyond the immediate property.
Police Point to Generator Spark and Soda Bottle Bursts
The explosion was reported from the residence of Deepu Chugh. Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh provided preliminary findings, indicating that the fire likely originated from a spark in the wiring of a generator that was powering a sugarcane machine on the premises.
"Our initial investigation suggests a spark in the generator wire may have caused the initial fire," stated SSP Gurmeet Singh. "The subsequent bursting of a stock of soda bottles kept inside the house generated blast-like sounds. This explosion was powerful enough to blow off the shutters of neighboring shops and cause structural damage to walls."
Local Residents Contest Police Theory, Suspect Firecracker Involvement
Despite the police explanation, many local residents have raised serious doubts about the official account. They argue that it is highly improbable for bursting soda bottles alone to have caused the extensive damage witnessed, including the collapse of parts of the roof and the destruction of shutters located across the street.
Community members have brought forward additional concerning information. They highlighted that the house owner, Deepu Chugh, traditionally sold firecrackers during the Diwali festival season. This has led to growing demands from locals for a thorough investigation to verify whether any leftover firecrackers or explosive materials were improperly stored within the house, potentially contributing to the severity of the blasts.
The incident has left the Patel Park area in a state of distress, with questions swirling about the exact cause and whether proper safety protocols were being followed regarding the storage of both the generator and any other materials. Authorities are expected to continue their investigation amid these conflicting accounts from police and residents.
