Kolkata: While the investigation into the Garia murder case continues, investigators have stated they are almost certain it was a homicide, with the prime suspect being the victim's husband, Soumik Das.
A 40-year-old woman, Enakshi Das, was found dead in her Garia apartment on Sunday morning. Police said that nearly 90% of the evidence suggests it is a murder.
According to preliminary findings, the victim bore multiple injury marks, including visible scratches on her face and eyes, suggesting a violent struggle before her death. Investigators have also found signs of forceful assault, including indications that her head was hit against a hard surface. A piece of cloth was reportedly stuffed into her mouth, pointing to the brutality of the act.
Forensic teams have collected blood samples and other important evidence from the scene. Officers are also examining whether a third person was involved in the crime. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed to track movements and establish a clearer timeline.
The accused husband, an academic reportedly associated with a city college, has been absconding since the body was discovered by their domestic help. Police have alerted nearby stations and launched a search operation to trace his whereabouts.
The victim was taken to the hospital by her father, Shishir Kumar Kamilya, who later filed a complaint against his son-in-law. The grieving father described the woman as soft-spoken and said the family is struggling to come to terms with her tragic death. Officers from Baruipur District Police stated that since the accused is still at large, the actual motive behind the crime remains unclear. All possible angles are being explored, and neighbours are being questioned as part of the ongoing probe.
