Major Sex Racket Busted in Garhwa, Administration Seals Three Hotels
In a significant crackdown, the Garhwa administration and police have successfully busted a sex racket operating in the town, leading to the detention of 28 individuals, including five schoolgirls. The operation, which resulted in the sealing of three hotels, was carried out on Monday by a joint team of officials.
Coordinated Raid Leads to Multiple Arrests
The raid was conducted under the leadership of Garhwa Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sanjay Kumar and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Neeraj Kumar. They were supported by a comprehensive team including Circle Officer (CO) Shafi Alam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Yashodhra, Inspector Sunil Kumar Tiwari, and personnel from the Garhwa Nagar Parishad. This coordinated effort targeted three specific hotels suspected of facilitating illegal activities.
Detainees Include Schoolgirls, Adults Face Legal Action
Of the 28 people picked up for questioning, 23 were taken into police custody. The five schoolgirls, identified as students of Class 9 and Class 10, were interrogated in the presence of a female police officer to ensure their safety and comfort. Following the questioning, the minors were released and handed over to their guardians, as confirmed by Sunil Kumar Tewari, the officer-in-charge of Garhwa police station.
In contrast, six adults among those detained have been sent to jail under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The individuals facing incarceration are Sorakh Paswan, Manoj Kumar, Afridi Alam, Ashutosh Kumar, Dharmendra Kumar, and Vikas Kumar. Additionally, First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged against six others, including the owners of the hotels, a manager, and an operator involved in the racket.
Police Emphasize Protection of Minors
Garhwa Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar provided details on the operation, stating, "Over two dozen persons, including schoolgirls, were taken into police custody for questioning. The schoolgirls of Class 9 and Class 10 were interrogated in presence of a female police officer, and they were later released." This statement underscores the administration's commitment to handling sensitive cases involving minors with utmost care and adherence to legal protocols.
The swift action by the Garhwa administration highlights ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and ensure public safety in the region. The sealing of the hotels serves as a stern warning to establishments involved in unlawful operations, while the legal proceedings against the accused aim to deliver justice and deter future offenses.
