The search for victims of Friday night's tragic car accident at Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi concluded on Monday morning when rescue teams recovered the body of the fourth and final missing person. The vehicle had plunged into the dam waters three days earlier, claiming the lives of all occupants.
Rescue Operation Details
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams had been conducting search operations since Saturday morning, continuing through Sunday evening. During this intensive search period, they successfully retrieved three bodies from the dam waters. However, the fourth victim remained missing despite their efforts.
On Monday, the NDRF intensified their search operation by deploying two deep divers and enlisting help from local residents. The persistent efforts finally paid off when the body of the fourth victim was found floating in the dam waters.
Victims Identified
The three bodies recovered earlier were identified as Upendra Singh and Robin Kumar, both police officers serving as bodyguards for the principal district and sessions judge of the family court in East Singhbhum. The third victim was Anil Singh, who worked as a driver for the civil court.
The fourth victim, whose body was recovered on Monday, was identified as Satyendra Singh, also a driver employed at the East Singhbhum civil court. Police authorities confirmed that both Anil and Satyendra were drivers at the civil court, though it remains unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Investigation Progress
Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against an unknown vehicle and its driver. SP (Rural) Praveen Pushkar stated that multiple angles of the incident are under investigation, with preliminary evidence suggesting that the tragic accident occurred when another vehicle hit the ill-fated car, causing it to plunge into the dam.
NDRF officer Ram Singh provided technical insight into the recovery operation, explaining that in typical drowning cases, bodies decompose and float to the surface within 48 hours. However, he noted that colder water temperatures can significantly delay this process, which might explain why the fourth body took longer to surface.
The tragedy has left the East Singhbhum court community in mourning, with colleagues and family members grieving the sudden loss of four individuals connected to the judicial system. Authorities continue their investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
