AGRA: Four police personnel, including three sub-inspectors, have been booked after a woman alleged that she was assaulted while in police custody at Sikandra police station. The FIR was lodged on Thursday night following court intervention and a subsequent dismissal of a police challenge to the order.
The FIR was registered at Sikandra police station late on Thursday against sub-inspectors Nilesh Sharma, Surjeet Singh and Neha, along with woman constable Seema, following a court order.
According to the complaint, Seema Sikarwar moved the court alleging that she was arrested by police on June 4 in connection with an old warrant case and was assaulted at the police station during her detention.
Her lawyer Ajit Singh said Sikarwar was produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court on June 5, where she raised the allegation. The court subsequently ordered a medical examination, which reportedly found injury marks on her body.
The CJM court directed police on June 6 to register a case against the accused personnel. Police later challenged the order before a sessions court, but their revision petition was dismissed on June 11, paving the way for the registration of the FIR, the lawyer said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Manisha said an investigation has been started after registration of the case.
"The matter is serious, and a departmental inquiry is also underway. Further action will be taken based on the findings," she said.
