Four Held with MDMA in Thiruvananthapuram, Duo Had Violent Criminal Past
Four arrested with MDMA in Thiruvananthapuram

In a significant crackdown, a special anti-narcotics team in Thiruvananthapuram has arrested four individuals and confiscated a quantity of the party drug MDMA. The operation also brought to light the extensive and violent criminal history of two of the accused brothers.

Narcotics Bust Based on Secret Tip

The Rural District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (Dansaf) unit, acting in coordination with Mangalapuram police, made the arrests following a specific tip-off. During the operation, the authorities successfully seized 22 grams of MDMA from the possession of the accused.

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Shafeeq (29) and his younger brother Shameer (26), both residents of Pallippuram. The other two arrested men are Rahul (28) and Mufasil (29), who hail from Chittattumukku in Kaniyapuram.

Notorious Brothers with a Trail of Violent Crimes

Police investigations revealed that the siblings, Shafeeq and Shameer, are not new to the world of crime. They are named as accused in several serious cases, painting a picture of their dangerous profile.

Their alleged criminal activities include:

  • The assault of a gold merchant and a subsequent theft of gold.
  • The abduction and wrongful confinement of a youth, followed by physical assault.
  • A brazen incident where they hurled a country-made bomb at police personnel who arrived to arrest them, using the chaos to escape.

In a separate dramatic event in 2023, Shameer allegedly attempted to flee from custody at Mangalapuram by slashing his own neck.

Judicial Custody and Ongoing Probe

Following their arrest in the MDMA drug case, all four accused were produced before the Attingal court. The court has ordered them to be remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

The arrest underscores the continued efforts of the Dansaf team and local police in Thiruvananthapuram to combat the narcotics trade, especially when intertwined with individuals known for violent offences. The police are likely to deepen their probe to uncover the source and network of the drug supply.
