In a significant law enforcement operation in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan, police have arrested four individuals, including three from Amritsar, Punjab, and one local resident. The arrests were made in connection with the recovery of an illegal country-made pistol and a separate heroin seizure, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat crime in the region.
Weapons Recovery and Vehicle Seizure
On Thursday, March 20, 2026, police acted on a tip-off about possible illegal weapons and surrounded a Verna car with Punjab registration near Durga Mandir in Sriganganagar. From the vehicle, officers recovered a country-made .315 bore pistol and one cartridge. The occupants, identified as Harkirat Singh (28) from Ganda Colony and Akashdeep Singh (22) from Banwali Sadulshehar, were apprehended after they refused to surrender, leading police to break the car's glass to detain them.
Simultaneously, near the Sadhuwali check post on the Sriganganagar-Abohar road, two other youths from Amritsar were arrested for disturbing the peace. Gurprakash Singh (23) of Gurnam Nagar and Manpreet Singh (28) of Pratap Nagar were found in a Scorpio vehicle, which was seized under the Motor Vehicle Act due to lack of proper documents.
Investigation Details and Charges
According to Sub Inspector Rameshwar Lal Bishnoi, the arrested individuals had come to Sriganganagar to purchase an old Scorpio. After finalizing the deal, they were seen driving around in both vehicles. During interrogation, Gurprakash and Manpreet revealed that the illegal weapons were in the Verna, prompting police to pursue and surround it. Harkirat Singh and Akashdeep Singh have been charged under the Arms Act, while Gurprakash and Manpreet are detained under Section 170 of the Indian Civil Defense Code for their involvement in disturbing public order.
Separate Heroin Seizure Incident
In a related development, police arrested a suspect identified as Happy Singh (21) from Jalalabad district in Fazilka after recovering approximately 21 grams of heroin. It was revealed that Happy Singh had borrowed a Scorpio car after arranging the heroin from Kulwant Singh of Jalalabad. The Scorpio used in this drug transaction has also been seized by authorities, adding to the list of confiscated vehicles in these operations.
These incidents underscore the proactive measures taken by Rajasthan Police to address illegal activities, including weapon possession and drug trafficking, in the Sriganganagar area. The arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in maintaining law and order, with police continuing to monitor and act on intelligence to prevent such crimes.
