Four Youths Arrested in Gangavathi for Alleged Assault and Coercion of Salesman

In a disturbing incident from Gangavathi city, Koppal district, police have taken four youths into custody on Wednesday in connection with the alleged assault and harassment of a 27-year-old salesman, Venkatesh Avalamand. The victim, a resident of Basapattana village in Gangavathi taluk, filed a formal complaint at the Gangavathi Town police station, leading to the registration of a case against eight suspects, including individuals identified as Khaja Peer, Amir, and Indravali.

Details of the Incident on February 3

According to the complaint, the episode unfolded on the night of February 3 when Venkatesh visited the Gangavathi bus terminus. He was there to drop off a woman and her children at the request of her family, who are his neighbors. Upon his arrival, a group of youths confronted him, questioning his association with the woman.

The situation escalated rapidly as the youths allegedly snatched Venkatesh's mobile phone and proceeded to inspect his photo gallery. They questioned him about photographs of Muslim girls found on the device, despite the woman clarifying that she knew him personally. Ignoring her explanations, the group forced Venkatesh to move around the city on a scooter, further intensifying the harassment.

Assault and Coercion Near Railway Tracks

Around 11:30 PM, the youths took Venkatesh to a secluded area near the railway tracks in the Siddikeri locality. There, he was subjected to physical assault. The complaint states that he was coerced into confessing that he was in love with the woman, under threats of death if he did not comply.

To compound the ordeal, the youths allegedly recorded a video of his forced confession before abandoning him at the spot. This act of recording adds a layer of digital evidence to the case, which police are now investigating as part of their probe into the broader allegations.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

Following Venkatesh's complaint, law enforcement authorities acted swiftly, arresting four of the eight named suspects. The case highlights concerns over vigilante-style behavior and the misuse of digital devices in personal conflicts. Police are continuing their investigation to apprehend the remaining suspects and gather further evidence, including the alleged video recording.

This incident underscores the need for community awareness and strict legal action against such acts of violence and coercion. The Gangavathi Town police station has assured the public that they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness to ensure justice for the victim.
