Three-Day Forensic Training Workshop Launches for Police in Nurpur
A specialised three-day training workshop aimed at strengthening the forensic capabilities of police investigating officers (IOs) commenced at the Nurpur police district headquarters on Monday. This initiative is designed to enhance the professional skills of IOs from Nurpur and Una districts, with a primary focus on evidence collection, preservation, and forwarding procedures.
Organisation and Leadership
The workshop is being organised by the Directorate of Forensic Services (DFS) based in Junga, under the supervision of Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan, the director of DFS. According to Nurpur Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma, the event has attracted participation from senior police officers, IOs, assistant directors, and forensic services officials. SP Verma emphasised that this training will significantly improve scientific crime scene management, refine preservation techniques, and streamline legal procedures for exhibit forwarding.
Practical Demonstrations and Expert Involvement
Experts from various forensic units, including the DFS Junga, Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Dharamsala, and the Digital Forensic Unit in Nurpur, conducted practical demonstrations. These sessions covered the handling of biological, chemical, and ballistic evidence, providing hands-on experience to the participants. SP Verma noted that this is the first time such a workshop is being held in the Nurpur police district, and it is expected to play a crucial role in honing the forensic skills of the attending IOs.
The training underscores a broader effort to modernise police investigative methods through advanced forensic education, ensuring more effective law enforcement in the region.
