Dense Fog Proves Deadly on Uttar Pradesh Highways
Dense fog and poor visibility turned deadly on Uttar Pradesh highways this Sunday. Two major road accidents in Amethi and Barabanki districts claimed three lives. At least seventeen people sustained injuries in these separate incidents. Several of the injured remain in critical condition.
Amethi: High-Speed Collision Claims Two Lives
A high-speed collision occurred early Sunday morning on the Banda-Tanda Highway in Amethi. The accident happened near a steel factory in the Gauriganj area. A car and a UPSRTC bus crashed into each other with tremendous force.
The impact proved so severe that both vehicles plunged off the road. Two people died on the spot from their injuries.
Police identified the deceased as Deepak Singh from Anni Baijal village in Gauriganj. He was traveling as a passenger on the bus. The second victim was Rituraj from Divitara village in Kaushambi's Pokhara area. He was driving the car at the time of the collision.
At least ten bus passengers sustained various injuries. Emergency services rushed all injured individuals to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police officials conducted a preliminary investigation. They pointed to overspeeding and negligence as primary causes. Foggy conditions significantly worsened the situation on the highway.
Eyewitnesses present at the scene provided crucial accounts. They claimed both vehicles were moving at dangerously high speeds before the head-on collision occurred.
Barabanki: Chain Collision in Thick Fog
In a separate incident, dense fog led to a chain collision on the Barabanki-Bahraich highway. This accident also occurred on Sunday morning near the Harinarayanpur turn. The location falls under Ramnagar police station limits.
Two SUVs initially collided head-on in the poor visibility conditions. Moments later, a bus following one of the SUVs lost control completely. The bus then rammed directly into the already damaged SUV.
Devendra Kumar, a forty-year-old resident of Rusipurwa village, died on the spot. Police established his identity through a labour card found at the scene. The village falls under Karnailganj police station jurisdiction.
Seven other people traveling in the two cars sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders rushed them to the Ramnagar community health centre for immediate medical attention.
Two critically injured individuals required further treatment. Mohd Islam, aged fifty, and Atikurrahman were later referred to the district hospital for specialized care.
Police revealed interesting details about one vehicle's occupants. One SUV carried Mohd Israr, a twenty-six-year-old from Jarwal town in Bahraich district. He works in Dubai and had just landed at Lucknow airport. He was returning home with his father Makbool Ahmed, aged fifty. His brother-in-law Salam, aged forty-eight, also traveled with them. The group included his niece Safiya, aged ten, his sister Razia, aged eleven, and his brother Suban, aged eighteen. All family members were involved in the accident.
The collision caused massive disruption on the highway. A traffic jam stretched nearly two kilometers along the road. Vehicular movement remained completely disrupted for approximately one hour.
Ramnagar station house officer Anil Kumar Pandey provided official updates. He confirmed the body was sent for post-mortem examination. Police later restored normal traffic flow on the affected highway section.
