The Walayar police took five local residents into custody on Friday in connection with the fatal assault. Those arrested have been identified as Anu (38), Prasad (34), Murali (38), Anandan (55), and Bipin (30), all from Attappallam. They were presented before a local court, which subsequently ordered them to be placed in judicial custody.

The victim, Ramnarayan Bhayar, a native of Chhattisgarh, was brutally attacked by a group of people on Wednesday evening at Attappallam East. Authorities stated that the mob assaulted him with the apparent intent to cause grievous harm, leading to multiple severe injuries.

Sequence of Events and Medical Findings

Before his tragic death, Bhayar was able to inform hospital staff that he was attacked by a mob who accused him of being a thief. Following the assault, he was rushed to the Palakkad District Hospital via ambulance. Despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The initial postmortem findings have revealed a harrowing picture. Preliminary reports indicate that Bhayar died due to excessive bleeding caused by severe blunt-force injuries to his head and multiple body parts. X-ray scans conducted prior to the autopsy confirmed the presence of internal bleeding in the head. The official postmortem was carried out at the Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur, with the final report expected by Saturday.
