Five Individuals Arrested After Violent Attack on Police Team in West Champaran

Authorities in West Champaran district have arrested five people, including a woman, following a violent assault on a police team. The incident occurred in Gobarhiya village under the Laukaria police station area on Sunday night.

Police Team Attacked While Responding to Dispute

A Dial-112 police team arrived at the village to settle a dispute between two groups. The team, led by SI Suraj Kumar Sharma, initially managed to pacify the crowd. They instructed the villagers to come to the police station for further resolution.

Shortly after the police team departed, another emergency call reported an escalation in the conflict. When officers returned to the scene, villagers launched a brutal attack on them.

Nine Police Personnel Sustain Injuries

The assault left nine police personnel injured. Eight officers received minor injuries, while one sustained more serious harm. Medical staff treated the injured officers at the Harnatand sub-health center.

Police identified the injured personnel as Baleshwar Kumar (38), Suraj Kumar Sharma (28), Parmanand Singh Yadav (45), Rakesh Kumar Rana (41), Sameer (50), Anjali Kumar Singh (40), Ankesh Kumar (34), Sadhan Kumar (36), and Sumita Kumari (39).

Coordinated Police Operation Leads to Arrests

Following the attack, police from multiple stations launched a joint operation. Teams from Laukaria, Naurangiya, Semra, and Patkhauli police stations conducted raids in Gobarhiya village.

During these operations, authorities apprehended five suspects. Police identified them as Shambhu Ram, Mishu Devi, Motilal Ram, Vasudev Ram, and Baldev Ram.

Investigation Continues as Case Registered

Police have registered a formal case against twelve named individuals and several unidentified persons. The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify all participants in the assault.

Ramnagar SDPO Ragini Kumari provided details about the incident on Monday. She explained that the police team faced violence during their second visit to the village. Even when additional officers from Laukaria police station arrived, the attackers continued their assault.

The Dial-112 emergency service, designed to provide rapid police response, became the target of this unexpected violence. Authorities emphasize that attacks on police personnel performing their duties will face strict legal consequences.

West Champaran district, historically significant for Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran Satyagraha, now grapples with this disturbing incident of public violence against law enforcement officers.
