Tragic Fire at Rajampet Lodge Claims One Life, 38 Tourists Rescued in Timely Operation
A devastating fire broke out at a private lodge on Railway Station Road in Rajampet, Annamayya district, on Thursday, resulting in the tragic death of a 36-year-old man. The victim, identified as Venkata Srinivasulu from Korrapadu village in Proddatur mandal, lost his life in the incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Swift Response Saves Multiple Lives
Police and fire services personnel arrived at the scene promptly, executing a successful rescue operation that saved 38 tourists who were stranded on the first floor of the private lodge. According to authorities, the fire originated near the reception area on the ground floor due to an electric short circuit. Since the entry and exit to the approximately 20 rooms at the lodge were through the reception, the blaze trapped the tourists, creating a perilous situation.
Some of the tourists who were awake and noticed the fire in the reception area raised an alarm, which was crucial in alerting passers-by. These individuals quickly notified the local police and fire services, enabling a timely response. The local police, in coordination with fire services personnel, used ladders to evacuate all 38 stranded tourists, preventing further casualties.
Injuries and Aftermath
Five tourists sustained injuries during the incident and were immediately rushed to the local government hospital in Rajampet for medical treatment. Their conditions are being monitored, but details on the severity of their injuries have not been disclosed. After the fire was brought under control, police shifted the body of the lone victim, Venkata Srinivasulu, to the government general hospital in Rajampet for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Government Support and Investigation
Sub collector SH Bhavana visited the government hospital to meet with the family members of the deceased. She assured them of all necessary support from the government, emphasizing the administration's commitment to assisting those affected by the tragedy. The Rajampet police are conducting a thorough investigation into the fire accident, focusing on the electrical short circuit as the primary cause. Authorities are also reviewing safety protocols at the lodge to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures in public accommodations and the critical role of community alertness in emergency situations. The successful rescue operation underscores the efficiency of local emergency services, but the loss of life serves as a somber reminder of the risks posed by such accidents.
