Major Blaze Erupts at Namakkal Municipal Waste Management Facility
A serious fire incident occurred on Sunday at the solid waste management composting facility operated by the Namakkal municipal corporation, located in the Kosavampatty area. The fire caused substantial damage, including the destruction of a plastic sorting machine valued at approximately 5 lakh rupees.
Firefighting Efforts and Facility Operations
Firefighters from the Namakkal fire station responded promptly to the emergency, engaging in intense efforts for about three hours to successfully bring the raging fire under control. The facility plays a crucial role in the city's waste management system, handling biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste collected from the public across all 39 wards under the corporation's jurisdiction.
At the plant, waste is meticulously segregated, with the leftover materials being dumped on-site for further processing. It was this accumulated garbage that suddenly ignited, leading to a rapid spread of flames throughout the facility premises.
