Fire Breaks Out at Delhi's ITO Trade and Taxes Building
A significant fire erupted at the Trade and Taxes building located in ITO, New Delhi, on Thursday morning. This incident occurred just one day after a deadly blaze in a residential-cum-commercial building in the Palam area of the capital.
Emergency Response and Control
According to official reports, the Delhi Fire Services received information about the fire on the 12th floor of the ITO building at 8:26 AM. In response, six fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene to manage the situation. The fire department successfully brought the blaze under control within a short period, preventing any escalation.
No casualties have been reported so far from the ITO building fire. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities, with further details expected as the probe continues.
Compensation Announced for Palam Fire Victims
In a related development, the Delhi government announced compensation on Wednesday for the victims of the Palam building fire. Families of the deceased will receive ₹10 lakh, while ₹5 lakh will be provided for deceased children. Additionally, those who sustained serious injuries in the incident will be given ₹2 lakh as compensation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his deepest condolences and announced ex-gratia payments from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The next of kin of each deceased will receive ₹2 lakh, and the injured will be granted ₹50,000.
Details of the Palam Fire Incident
The fire in the Palam residential building, located in the Sadh Nagar area, broke out in the early hours of Wednesday. It is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Multiple agencies, including the Delhi Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police, are actively engaged in relief operations.
The death toll from the Palam fire has risen to nine, with three individuals reported injured so far, according to fire officials. This tragic event has highlighted ongoing concerns about fire safety in urban buildings across Delhi.
