In a decisive crackdown, the Ferozepur police rescued ten individuals from an illegal de-addiction centre operating in the Adarsh Nagar locality of Talwandi Bhai town. The raid, conducted on Wednesday, led to the immediate closure of the unlicensed facility and the arrest of its operator.
Police Action Follows Tip-Off
Acting on specific information that ten people were being held illegally, a police team from Talwandi Bhai raided the premises in Adarsh Nagar. The operator, identified as Inderjit Singh, failed to produce any valid licence or documentation authorising the centre's operations. Official records confirmed the centre was running without the mandatory permissions and approvals from competent health authorities.
Violations and Rescue Operation
The investigation revealed alarming violations of prescribed norms. Patients were allegedly admitted and treated in conditions that endangered their health and safety. Police officials emphasised that legitimate de-addiction centres must follow strict guidelines, including employing qualified medical staff, maintaining proper infrastructure, and securing authorisation from the health department. Operating without these clearances is a punishable offence.
Following the raid, the ten rescued men were safely handed over to their families. The case was formally registered based on a complaint filed by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Talwandi Bhai police station after verification and inquiry.
Legal Proceedings Underway
An FIR has been registered under Section 127(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 340 of the IPC. Police stated that further investigation is ongoing to identify all those responsible and to ascertain the full duration and scale of the illegal activities conducted at the centre. This action highlights the continued vigilance of Punjab police against unauthorized healthcare facilities exploiting vulnerable individuals.
