In a significant drug bust, the Fazilka police have apprehended two individuals and confiscated a substantial quantity of heroin from a vehicle using fraudulent government identification. The operation led to the recovery of more than 260 grams of the illicit substance and the seizure of the car involved.
The Highway Interception and Arrest
Acting on a strategic move, police personnel established a checkpoint near Theh Kalandar village on the busy Fazilka-Ferozepur highway. Their vigilance paid off when they signaled a car approaching from the direction of Jalalabad to stop for inspection. The situation escalated quickly as one occupant of the vehicle, upon spotting the police, managed to flee the scene on foot. However, his two associates were not as fortunate and were taken into custody immediately.
Discovery of Contraband and Deceptive Tactics
A thorough search of the detained car yielded a shocking find: 260 grams of heroin. Further investigation into the vehicle revealed a deliberate attempt to avoid law enforcement scrutiny. The accused had fitted the car with a fake 'Rajasthan government' number plate, a tactic intended to lend an air of official legitimacy and potentially bypass routine checks.
Fazilka Sadar Station House Officer (SHO) Hardev Singh Bedi provided details on the identities of those involved. The arrested accused were named as Gowardhan and Bantu Singh, both hailing from Hanumangarh in Rajasthan. The third accused, who successfully escaped from the spot, is Vinod Kumar, also a resident of Hanumangarh. A manhunt is currently underway to locate and apprehend him.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
The police have officially registered a case against all three accused under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The two arrested individuals are set to be presented before a court, following which the police will seek remand for custodial interrogation. This step is considered crucial for a comprehensive investigation to uncover the broader network and supply chain, and to facilitate the swift arrest of the absconding suspect, Vinod Kumar.
This incident highlights the innovative yet illicit methods employed by drug peddlers and the proactive measures taken by the Fazilka police to combat the narcotics trade in the region. The seizure of such a significant quantity of heroin is expected to deal a blow to local drug distribution networks.
