Fatehabad Police Intensify Crackdown on Drug Trafficking Networks

In a significant escalation of anti-narcotics operations, Fatehabad police have dramatically increased their enforcement actions against drug trafficking during the first quarter of 2026. According to official data released by the district police department, arrests under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have skyrocketed by an astonishing 147% compared to the same three-month period in the previous year.

Sharp Rise in Cases and Arrests

The statistical evidence reveals a substantial surge in police activity. Between January 1 and March 31, 2026, authorities registered a total of 132 NDPS cases and made 250 arrests. This represents a dramatic increase from the first quarter of 2025, when only 38 cases were filed and 101 individuals were apprehended. The data underscores the police department's intensified focus on dismantling drug networks operating within the Fatehabad district.

Targeting Street-Level and Financial Operations

Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Sidhant Jain emphasized that the crackdown has been comprehensive, targeting both street-level traffickers and the financial networks that support the illicit drug trade. "Our strategy is multi-pronged," stated SP Jain. "We are not only apprehending those directly involved in distribution but also disrupting the economic foundations that enable this criminal activity to flourish."

As part of this financial disruption, police have attached properties valued at approximately Rs 1.3 crore belonging to 16 alleged drug smugglers. Notably, no such property attachments were executed during the corresponding period in 2025, indicating a new and aggressive approach to cripple the economic infrastructure of drug operations.

Increase in Commercial Quantity Cases

The crackdown has also resulted in a notable rise in cases involving commercial quantities of narcotics. During the first quarter of 2026, police registered 17 cases involving commercial quantities, compared to just six such cases in the same timeframe last year. This suggests that enforcement efforts are successfully intercepting larger consignments and targeting major suppliers.

During various operations, law enforcement agencies seized substantial quantities of illicit substances, including opium, poppy husk, cannabis, heroin, and banned pharmaceutical drugs. These seizures have significantly disrupted the supply chain and availability of narcotics within the region.

Expanded Rehabilitation and Awareness Initiatives

Alongside rigorous enforcement, Fatehabad police have substantially expanded their rehabilitation and public awareness efforts under Operation Jeevan Jyoti. In the first three months of 2026, police conducted 251 awareness programs across the district, more than double the 110 programs held during the same period in 2025.

The rehabilitation component has also seen remarkable growth. A total of 393 individuals received treatment for substance abuse in Q1 2026, a significant increase from 117 people treated last year. Furthermore, 50 individuals have been successfully rehabilitated and reintegrated into society, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in addressing both the supply and demand sides of the drug problem.

The combined approach of strict law enforcement, financial crackdowns, and compassionate rehabilitation represents a holistic strategy by Fatehabad police to combat the scourge of drug trafficking and addiction in the community.
