Farrukhabad Police Arrest Rape Accused in Late-Night Encounter
In a dramatic late-night operation, Farrukhabad police arrested a man accused of raping a minor girl after an encounter that left both the accused and a police constable injured. The incident unfolded in the Kamalganj area of Farrukhabad district, Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the swift action taken by law enforcement in response to a heinous crime.
Details of the Alleged Crime
The case began on Friday afternoon when the accused, identified as Ashok Verma, allegedly took the minor girl, a resident of a local village, to a secluded hut in a corn field. There, he is accused of committing the rape, which prompted an immediate police response upon receiving the report.
The Encounter and Arrest
Late Friday night, Inspector Lalit Kumar, the in-charge of Kamalganj police station, was on patrol with his team when they received a tip-off about the accused hiding in a field near Ugrapur village along the Rajipur-Jarari road. The police team, including SSI Sandeep Gautam and Vimal Yadav, quickly cordoned off the area.
Upon spotting the police, Ashok Verma opened fire, with one bullet grazing the right hand of Constable Lokendra. In retaliatory firing by the police team, Verma was shot in the right leg, leading to his arrest. The police recovered one country-made pistol and two empty cartridges from his possession, as confirmed by ASP Arun Kumar Singh.
Injuries and Medical Treatment
Both the accused and Constable Lokendra sustained injuries during the encounter. They were initially admitted to a community health centre for primary treatment. Subsequently, Ashok Verma was referred to Lohia Hospital for further medical care due to the bullet injury in his leg. The constable's condition was stabilized, and he is expected to recover.
