Kanpur Central Railway Station to Get Face Recognition Cameras for Enhanced Security
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has drafted a proposal to install face recognition system (FRS) cameras at Kanpur Central Railway Station, aiming to significantly boost security measures. This initiative is designed to detect crime suspects entering or leaving the station and send real-time alerts, facilitating quicker arrests and improving overall safety.
Proposal Details and Implementation Plan
The proposal will be submitted to the railway division for approval. Once greenlit, installation will commence at strategic locations, including entry and exit points on both the City and Cantt sides of the station, as well as other key areas. These smart cameras are equipped with advanced technology to identify suspects and criminals, promptly notifying the control room for immediate action.
Current Surveillance and Upgrades
Currently, Kanpur Central Railway Station has 140 CCTV cameras installed, covering the premises and surrounding areas, all monitored from the RPF post's control room. The new FRS cameras will upgrade this system by incorporating video analytics and infrared technology, ensuring clear footage even in low-light conditions. This enhancement is expected to monitor unauthorized entry points that are presently accessible, addressing security gaps.
