Ex-Punjab cop held for Rs 10 crore extortion bid

New Delhi: A former Punjab Police officer and an employee of a Delhi-based defence entrepreneur have been arrested for allegedly conspiring to extort Rs 10 crore from the businessman by sending death threats through a messaging app.

Case Details

The case was initially registered at Chanakyapuri police station after the entrepreneur reported receiving threatening messages from international numbers demanding Rs 10 crore. The probe was later transferred to the Crime Branch.

Arrests Made

Police alleged that Jaswant Singh conspired with two associates, Shamsher Singh and Gurpinder Singh, to execute the extortion bid. Investigators said he provided a mobile phone and SIM card allegedly used to send the threats. The associates have been arrested too.
