Former Pataudi Councillor and Accomplice Accused of Rape in Gurgaon Matrimonial Dispute
In a shocking case from Gurgaon, a former councillor from Pataudi and his associate have been named in an FIR for allegedly raping a woman over a period of two years. The accused reportedly exploited the victim's vulnerability by promising to help settle her matrimonial dispute and dowry case with her husband's family in Faridabad.
Background of the Matrimonial Conflict
Police revealed that the woman has been embroiled in legal battles with her husband since their marriage broke down shortly after their wedding eight years ago. According to her complaint, Zahid, the former councillor, and Sonu approached her, claiming they could broker a compromise with her husband and in-laws. This initial offer of assistance soon turned into a horrific ordeal of exploitation and abuse.
Allegations of Sexual Assault and Blackmail
The woman alleged that the abuse began in October 2024, when Sonu took her to a hotel under the pretext of mediation and raped her. She told authorities that he later blackmailed her into silence, preventing her from reporting the crime. Over the following months, she claimed to have been assaulted repeatedly at various hotels and at a house in Pataudi, where both men raped her on multiple occasions.
She further stated that on February 17 this year, the two men assaulted her again at a hotel. When she threatened to go to the police, they allegedly issued death threats to intimidate her.
Recent Assault and Police Intervention
According to the complaint, Zahid and his wife confronted the woman at a market this Friday, assaulting her on the road in an attempt to stop her from filing a case. Following this incident, she approached the police with her sister. As the woman is unable to read and write, her statement was recorded by a legal adviser in the presence of police officials.
FIR and Ongoing Investigation
An FIR has been registered under sections 64(2)(m), 70(1), and 351(2) of the BNS, which account for rape, gang rape, and criminal intimidation. A police officer stated, "The woman has identified the locations of the crime. We are scanning hotel registers for evidence. The investigation is on." As of Saturday evening, the accused had not been arrested, and authorities are actively pursuing leads in the case.
This case highlights serious concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable individuals in legal disputes and underscores the need for robust support systems for victims of such crimes.
