Wild Elephant Disrupts Traffic on Krishnagiri Road for an Hour

Traffic came to a standstill on the Anchetty - Natrampalayam Road in Krishnagiri district for approximately one hour on Thursday when a wild elephant decided to take a leisurely stroll right in the middle of the thoroughfare. Motorists traveling in both directions were forced to bring their vehicles to a complete halt as the majestic animal blocked their path.

Motorists Attempt to Scare Elephant Away with Loud Noises

In an attempt to clear the road, some drivers resorted to creating loud noises, hoping to chase the elephant away from the busy route. However, their efforts proved futile as the elephant remained unfazed, continuing to feed on the branches of roadside trees. It was only after a full hour had passed that the elephant eventually decided to leave the road and return to its natural habitat.

Forest Officials Explain Elephant Behavior and Issue Safety Advisory

According to officials from the forest department, this particular elephant is known to roam the forest roads within the Anchetty Forest Reserve in search of sustenance. A forest official elaborated on the situation, stating, "The forest has become unusually dry even before the onset of the summer season. Consequently, wild animals are venturing out of the forest in search of food, often entering roads and nearby villages."

Forest department authorities have issued a stern warning to motorists, advising them against attempting to chase elephants away by making loud noises or using other aggressive tactics. Instead, they recommend a safer approach: immediately inform the forest department whenever an elephant is spotted standing on a road. This allows trained professionals to handle the situation appropriately, ensuring the safety of both humans and the protected wildlife.

The incident highlights the increasing challenges of human-wildlife conflict in regions bordering forest reserves, especially during periods of environmental stress such as premature dryness. It serves as a reminder for residents and travelers in these areas to remain vigilant and follow official guidelines when encountering wild animals.
