A 76-year-old man was discovered dead under highly suspicious circumstances inside his residence in Andoli village, Hathras district, on Friday morning. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with initial observations strongly pointing towards murder.
Gruesome Discovery in Andoli Village
The body of Baba Amarnath Singh was found covered in blood, as reported by villagers from the area under the Hasayan police station. The alarm was first raised by the milkman around 7 am on Friday after he received no response from the elderly man's home. Upon entering, they found Singh lying on the floor beside his cot, his body covered with a quilt.
Police officials confirmed visible injury marks on the victim's neck and eyes. The body has since been sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
Police Investigation and Victim's Background
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ramanand Kushwaha stated that the deceased lived alone and was known to lend money to people. "All angles are being looked into to ascertain the cause of death," he assured. The Station House Officer of Hasayan police station, Girish Gautam, informed that an FIR has been registered under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unknown persons. He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and appropriate action will follow.
Contrary to what his money-lending activities might suggest, villagers described Amarnath Singh as a well-mannered individual with no known disputes. His wife had passed away, the couple had no children, and his closest relatives reside in Delhi, leaving him to live a solitary life in the village.
Last Known Movements and Community Shock
According to local accounts, Singh was last seen alive on Thursday night, warming himself by a fire before heading back to his home. The transition from this mundane, peaceful scene to the grim discovery the next morning has deeply unsettled the village community.
The police are currently pursuing all leads, focusing on his financial transactions and personal interactions, to identify the perpetrators behind this brutal crime. The case highlights concerns for the safety of elderly individuals living alone in rural areas.
