A 28-year-old man was killed and three others sustained serious injuries when a speeding dumper collided with a parked truck on the Lucknow-Kanpur National Highway near the Nawabganj toll plaza in Unnao early Saturday morning, police said.
Accident Details
According to police, the accident occurred around 5:30 am when the deceased, identified as Jeetu, rammed his dumper into the parked truck, causing extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. The dumper's cleaner, Chhote, along with two others from Barabanki, Mohammad Shadab and Aamir, were seriously injured.
Upon receiving information, Ajgain police and an ambulance team arrived at the scene. With the help of local residents, the injured were extricated from the dumper and taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nawabganj, where the driver was declared dead on arrival. Due to their critical condition, the three injured were later referred to the district hospital for further treatment.
Secondary Collision and Traffic Disruption
While police were working to remove the damaged vehicles, a trailer rammed into them from behind. The impact caused the trailer to break through the divider grill and enter the opposite lane, disrupting traffic on both sides of the highway. The accident led to a major traffic jam on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway, with congestion stretching nearly 5 km and affecting commuters for over two hours. A crane was deployed to remove the vehicles, after which traffic gradually resumed.
Investigation Underway
Police have sent the driver's body for post-mortem and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident, including why the truck was parked on the roadside and whether speeding or driver fatigue played a role.
