Drug Trafficker Held Under Preventive Detention in T'puram

Thiruvananthapuram: Mangalapuram police have placed a notorious drug trafficking accused, involved in multiple narcotics cases, under preventive detention for one year, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Shefeeq, 28, of Pachira, Pallipuram, was taken into custody and lodged in Poojappura Central Jail following an order issued by the state home department. Police said the detention order was issued based on a detailed report submitted by Mangalapuram police, citing his repeated involvement in drug-related offences.

According to police, as many as 32 cases related to narcotics have been registered against Shefeeq at various police stations across the state. Investigations revealed that he was allegedly engaged in the sale and trafficking of drugs in different parts of Thiruvananthapuram on a regular basis.

After the preventive detention order was issued, a police team reached Pallipuram, arrested the accused, and completed the required legal formalities before shifting him to jail.

Police said Shefeeq's criminal activities continued despite repeated action in earlier cases, prompting authorities to invoke the preventive detention provisions. Interestingly, his brother, Shemeer, is also currently lodged in the same jail in connection with drug trafficking cases. He has been under preventive detention under Kaapa since February 17.

With Shefeeq's detention, both brothers are now behind bars under preventive detention orders.
