DRI Nagpur Unit Strikes Major Blow Against Drug Trafficking with Dual Busts
In a significant escalation of its anti-narcotics campaign, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur Unit, has executed two major operations resulting in the seizure of 1,251 kilograms of ganja with an estimated street value of ₹6.25 crore. These coordinated actions have led to the arrest of four individuals, including the alleged mastermind behind the trafficking network.
First Operation: Interception of Pickup Van with 729kg Ganja
During the initial operation, DRI officials successfully intercepted a pickup van that was traveling from the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border towards Madhya Pradesh. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities discovered 53 packets of ganja weighing a total of 729 kilograms. The illicit substance was cleverly concealed beneath sacks of raw ginger, highlighting the sophisticated methods employed by traffickers. This consignment alone was valued at ₹3.64 crore. Two individuals were apprehended in connection with this bust, one of whom has been identified as the prime accused in the case.
Second Operation: Truck Intercepted at Bhagimahari Toll Plaza
In a separate but related earlier operation, DRI teams intercepted a truck at the Bhagimahari toll plaza located on National Highway-47. A detailed inspection of the vehicle revealed 522 kilograms of ganja hidden behind coolers, table fans, and blankets. This consignment was appraised at ₹2.61 crore. The operation resulted in the arrest of two additional accused, further dismantling the trafficking ring.
Impact on Interstate Narcotics Networks
The consecutive operations by the DRI have delivered a severe blow to interstate narcotics networks operating along the Odisha-Central India corridor. These actions have significantly disrupted the supply chain of ganja from the Odisha border to various regions across the country. Officials have emphasized that this crackdown represents a major advancement in the Government of India's vision for a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India), underscoring the commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking.
The successful seizures and arrests mark a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and protect public health from the dangers of illicit drugs.
