A 52-year-old doctor practicing in the United States lost 725 grams of gold ornaments, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, from a convention hall in east Bengaluru while attending a wedding reception on April 22.
Incident Details
Police identified the doctor as Siruvella Sridevi. She had arrived in Bengaluru on April 18 to attend her elder sister's son's wedding and was staying in Ganganagar. On the day of the reception, she went to SDP Palace in Katamnallur around 11:30 am.
According to her complaint, her brother K Srinivasamurthy handed over a box containing gold ornaments to her at the venue around 6:30 pm. After wearing some of the jewellery, she kept the rest in the box, placed it inside a bag, and locked the room allotted to her around 7 pm before heading for the reception. When she returned to the room around 7:30 pm, the box was missing.
Suspicion on Domestic Help
In her complaint, Sridevi told police that a woman working as a domestic help had come to the room while she was getting ready. The police suspect that the woman might have stolen the ornaments.
Legal Action
Avalahally police have registered a case under BNS Section 305 (theft) and are investigating the matter. Further details are awaited.
