Bhavnagar Gynaecologist Files FIR Against Surgeon Husband Alleging Years of Abuse

A 38-year-old gynaecologist from Rajkot has taken legal action by filing a formal police complaint at the Nilambaug police station in Bhavnagar against her 33-year-old husband, a joint and spine surgeon. The complaint alleges severe domestic violence and persistent dowry harassment, marking a distressing case within the medical community.

FIR Registered Under Multiple Legal Provisions

The First Information Report (FIR) was officially registered on Wednesday under BNS Sections 79, 85, 86(a), and 86(b), along with relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act. This legal step follows years of alleged abuse that the complainant endured in an attempt to preserve her marriage.

Allegations of Financial Demands and Physical Abuse

According to the detailed FIR, the couple entered into matrimony in November 2019, but marital discord began shortly thereafter. The gynaecologist claims that starting around April 2020, her husband repeatedly demanded money, luxury items, and various financial benefits from her parents. She further alleges that he developed a significant liquor habit, which exacerbated the situation.

The complainant states that she was subjected to physical abuse and constant questioning of her fidelity, with her husband allegedly using these tactics to pressure her into abandoning her medical career. The FIR outlines multiple instances of both professional and personal cruelty inflicted upon her.

Professional Sabotage and Personal Cruelty Detailed

One particularly disturbing allegation involves the husband's reaction to her professional duties. The woman asserts that he verbally abused her for treating Muslim patients at Bajrangdas Bapa Arogyadham, where she was employed, and created public scenes when she refused to cease such treatments.

In a heartbreaking claim, she accuses him of causing her to undergo a miscarriage in November 2024. Additionally, she alleges that he deliberately filed a false complaint under the PCPNDT Act with the local collector, aiming to damage both her medical career and the reputation of her parents.

Threats and Financial Neglect Amidst Family Pressures

The couple shares a three-year-old son, and the complainant reports that her husband failed to provide financial maintenance for both her and the child. Despite this neglect, he allegedly pressured her to have another child. She further claims that he threatened to kill both her and their son and filed a fabricated case in a Bhavnagar court to force her return.

Delay in Reporting Explained by Social and Familial Concerns

The alleged offences span from April 2020 to April 2026, raising questions about the delay in reporting. The complainant explains that she tolerated the abuse for years in a desperate attempt to save the marriage. She also cited deep concern for the social standing of both families, as her father and father-in-law are reputed doctors in Bhavnagar, which added to her hesitation.

However, the continued mental and physical torture eventually became unbearable, compelling her to seek legal recourse. This case highlights the complex interplay of professional reputation, familial pressure, and personal safety in situations of domestic violence.
