In a significant development in the alleged sexual harassment and ragging case at Dharamshala Government College, the father of the 19-year-old student who died last month has recorded his official statement before a magistrate. Police confirmed this step on Wednesday, marking a crucial phase in the investigation.
Forensic Analysis and Medical Records Collected
The investigation has taken a technical turn with the victim's mobile phone being sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for a detailed examination. Authorities aim to extract digital evidence that could be pivotal to the case.
In a parallel effort to determine the exact cause of her death, the police have gathered the girl's medical records from multiple hospitals. These include facilities in Pathankot, Ludhiana, Dharamshala, Kangra, and Palampur. Furthermore, a formal request has been made to the Govt Medical College and Hospital in Tanda to constitute a special medical board.
Case Registered Against Professor and Students
The legal proceedings began after the girl's father filed a formal complaint. Acting on this, the police registered a case on January 1 against a college professor and three female students.
The charges have been framed under serious sections of the law:
- Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
- Section 115(2) (causing hurt) of the BNS.
- Section 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS.
- Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institution (Prohibition of) Ragging Act, 2009.
Viral Video Adds to Allegations
The case gained public attention after a video circulated widely on social media. In the clip, the deceased victim purportedly alleged that the accused associate professor, who has since been suspended, touched her inappropriately. This video has become a key piece of the public narrative surrounding the tragic incident.
The police continue their multi-pronged investigation, combining digital forensics, medical expertise, and eyewitness accounts to uncover the full truth behind the student's death and the alleged harassment and ragging on campus.
