Gurgaon Delivery Executive Fatally Struck by Speeding SUV in Sector 49
A tragic hit-and-run incident in Gurgaon has claimed the life of a young delivery executive, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in the city. On Monday afternoon, a 20-year-old Domino's delivery boy, Praveen Kumar, was killed when his motorcycle was violently struck from behind by a speeding SUV in Sector 49.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The incident occurred between 2 pm and 2:30 pm near a hotel close to IT Space Park in Sector 49. According to a police complaint filed by the family, Praveen Kumar, a resident of Sector 71, was returning to the Domino's outlet at Omaxe Mall on Sohna Road after completing a delivery. His mother, Usha Devi, alleged that a Thar SUV, driven at high speed and in a negligent manner, hit his motorcycle from behind, causing him to fall onto the road.
Immediate aftermath saw the store manager, Sanjay Kumar, rushing Praveen to Civil Hospital in Sector 10. Despite these efforts, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The family's complaint emphasizes the reckless nature of the driving, which they believe directly led to this fatal outcome.
Family's Anguish and Police Response
Praveen's younger sister, Priya, aged 17, shared that the family received the devastating news from a relative contacted by the store manager. She mentioned that a woman assisted in getting an ambulance for her brother, who entered it on his own but succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
Based on the family's statement, police at Sector 50 police station have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused driver remains unidentified as investigations continue. A police team visited the hospital to collect a medico-legal report after being informed of the death.
Broader Implications and Safety Concerns
This incident underscores the vulnerabilities faced by delivery personnel and other two-wheeler users on Gurgaon's roads, where speeding and negligent driving are persistent issues. The case has drawn attention to the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and enhanced safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
As the community mourns the loss of a young worker, authorities are urged to expedite the investigation to bring the responsible driver to justice. The family's grief is compounded by the sudden and violent nature of the accident, calling for greater accountability in road safety practices.
