Delhi teen killed in schoolmate attack, 6 juveniles held

In a shocking incident of juvenile violence, a 17-year-old student was brutally beaten to death by a group of six boys in east Delhi's Trilokpuri area. The police have apprehended all six juveniles and are investigating whether a comment on social media served as the immediate trigger for the fatal assault.

Details of the Fatal Assault

The victim, a Class XI student at a government school, resided with his family in Trilokpuri. According to police, some of the accused also studied at the same school. An ongoing dispute with a classmate, who lived in the same locality, is believed to have been the background to the attack.

On the evening of January 5, the teenager was with his friends near Trilokpuri when an altercation with the group of juveniles quickly escalated into a violent scuffle. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania stated that an eyewitness reported the victim was surrounded by the group and repeatedly hit. "The boys used their fists and kicked the juvenile, even after he fell to the ground," the DCP said. When the eyewitness tried to intervene, he too was assaulted.

Investigation and Aftermath

The vicious attack left the 17-year-old unconscious. He was first examined at LBS Hospital and then referred to GTB Hospital for further treatment. The attending doctor declared him unfit to provide a statement. The hospital informed the police about the case on January 5 at 7:25 pm. Tragically, the teenager succumbed to his injuries around 1:15 am on Tuesday (January 6).

Following his death, police presence was increased in the Trilokpuri area to prevent any further tension. Authorities have registered a murder case. A police officer indicated that the dispute may have originated from a social media comment, though the investigation is ongoing. Investigators have clarified that there is no communal angle to the case.

A Separate Murder Case in Dallupura

In an unrelated but similarly grim incident in east Delhi, a 28-year-old labourer was murdered in Dallupura village. Police received information about the crime on January 4. The victim's mother, who had been at her daughter's residence, returned the next morning to find her son unresponsive in his room.

The post-mortem report confirmed death by strangulation. Police apprehended two boys from Dallupura who confessed to the crime. They admitted to visiting the labourer's room on the pretext of asking for a matchbox and consuming liquor with him. After he received his salary on January 3, they stole Rs 22,000 and his phones. An argument ensued, during which one boy held the man while the other strangled him with a giloy creeper.

These incidents contributed to a disturbing tally of violent crime in the capital, with 12 murders reported in the city between December 31 and January 6.
