Tech Professional's Instant Reaction Leads to Arrest
In northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area, 26-year-old IT professional Kunal Irungbam became the target of a daylight robbery on January 29. The Manipur native, who resides in Sant Nagar, was traveling to GTB Nagar in an e-rickshaw around 11:30 AM when two men on a motorcycle executed a swift snatching operation, making off with his iPhone.
What the assailants didn't anticipate was Irungbam's immediate response. Instead of panicking, the tech worker grabbed the collar of the pillion rider, causing the motorcycle to skid and both perpetrators to fall to the ground. Alert passersby quickly intervened, restraining the pillion rider while the driver managed to escape the scene.
Police subsequently arrested the detained suspect, identified as 24-year-old Sohail from Jahangirpuri. During interrogation, Sohail revealed that the fleeing rider was his accomplice Samad, also a resident of the same locality. Authorities have registered a First Information Report under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are actively searching for the second suspect.
Senior Citizen's Helmet Defense Forces Robbers to Flee
In a separate incident in south Delhi's RK Puram, 60-year-old Mohar Singh, an NDMC pump operator, faced an even more dangerous situation on the morning of January 26. While near the ARD Complex around 7:30 AM, three men on a motorcycle intercepted Singh, initially pretending to ask for directions.
The situation escalated rapidly when one assailant dismounted, stood in front of Singh's motorcycle, brandished a knife, and demanded all his belongings. "Another man began searching my pockets for cash, while the driver took my motorcycle keys," Singh recounted to police investigators.
Displaying remarkable composure, the senior citizen quickly dismounted his vehicle and used his helmet as an improvised defensive weapon, striking the attackers and forcing all three to abandon their robbery attempt. Before contacting authorities, Singh demonstrated exceptional presence of mind by noting down the registration number of the assailants' motorcycle.
Police have registered a case at the RK Puram police station and are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers. The registration number recorded by Singh provides a crucial lead in the investigation.

These incidents represent a continuing pattern of Delhi residents taking initiative during criminal encounters. Just last month, five citizens - including three friends who chased down suspects in Ashok Nagar - intervened to prevent crimes and assist law enforcement.
