Delhi Rape-Murder: Autopsy Shows Violent Struggle Before Death

New Delhi: In the investigation into the rape and murder of an IRS officer's daughter, autopsy findings have revealed multiple injury patterns, pointing to a violent assault and struggle before death, as reported by news agency ANI citing Dr. Sudhir Gupta, head of forensic medicine at AIIMS Delhi.

Victim and Arrest

The 22-year-old woman was found dead on Wednesday, and the accused, Rahul Meena, was later arrested from Dwarka in Delhi.

External Examination Findings

According to Dr. Gupta, the external examination revealed multiple abrasions and abraded contusions on both arms, hands, and legs, consistent with resistance by the victim. Dr. Gupta also mentioned facial injuries, including a nasal bone fracture, indicating blunt force trauma. "Multiple abrasions were found on the face, along with a fracture of the nasal bone--blunt force impact," he added.

Internal Examination

During the internal examination, significant findings were reported in the neck region. "On neck dissection--intramuscular haemorrhage was found in the sternocleidomastoid, sternothyroid and sternohyoid muscles," he said. For further forensic analysis, viscera samples, nail scrapings, and blood samples have been preserved at the request of the investigating officer to help determine the exact cause and sequence of events.

Police Account of the Incident

Police sources said the accused allegedly entered the Kailash Hills apartment in South Delhi using a spare key and went straight to a rooftop study, where he assaulted the victim before dragging her blood-soaked body downstairs.

Suspected Sequence

The accused, who worked as a domestic help, is suspected of attempting strangulation before the assault escalated. Police said sexual assault is suspected after the victim was rendered unconscious, followed by multiple fatal blows with a heavy object.

Sources added that he allegedly fled with cash and valuables, attempted to evade detection using fake calls, and disposed of mobile phones to destroy digital evidence. He was later traced to Palam railway station, where he tried to escape but failed to board a train.

Legal Proceedings

Meanwhile, a Saket court sent the accused to four days of police custody, allowing further interrogation. He was produced before the court after police sought custody to continue the investigation.

Background of the Victim

The victim, an IIT Delhi graduate and civil services aspirant, had been preparing for her first UPSC attempt and had set up a separate study room on the terrace for focused preparation.

A case has been registered under charges of rape, murder, and robbery, and further investigation is ongoing.
