Delhi Police Employ AI Technology in Shalimar Bagh Murder Investigation
Police in New Delhi are taking a high-tech approach to solve a brutal murder case. Investigators probing the killing of a woman in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh last Saturday have started using artificial intelligence tools. These AI systems are generating facial images of suspects from multiple angles.
Refining Visual Profiles for Investigation
The AI-generated images are undergoing further refinement. Police are working to develop clearer visual profiles of the suspects. Once these profiles are finalized, authorities plan to circulate them among police units and informers. This move aims to speed up identification and facilitate the arrest of those involved in the crime.
Police are also considering announcing a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. This incentive could encourage people with relevant information to come forward.
Examining Possible Motives Behind the Murder
The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Rachna Yadav. Police are probing a possible land-related dispute as the motive behind her murder. Investigators are examining her financial dealings with particular attention. They want to ascertain whether she had been embroiled in any property-related dispute that could have led to her killing.
Rachna Yadav was returning home after attending the last rites of a neighbor when the attack occurred. Shooters were presumably lying in wait for her. They hit her at point-blank range, killing her on the spot.
Family History of Violence and Threats
Rachna Yadav had been a key witness in the murder of her husband, Bijender Yadav, nearly three years earlier. Her husband worked as a property dealer and faced serious criminal allegations. He had at least nine criminal cases against him, including charges of murder and violations under the Arms Act.
Bijender Yadav met a similar fate in May 2023. He was shot outside a bakery in Bhalswa village. Following his murder, some of the accused were arrested and jailed. The Yadav family claimed they had been facing threats since that incident. Unidentified men reportedly opened fire in Bhalswa to intimidate them.
According to Rachna's daughter, her mother had been followed and threatened on the way to court. After these incidents, Rachna began attending hearings regarding her husband's murder through video conferencing instead of appearing in person.
Investigating Jail Connections and Coordinated Planning
Police sources reveal that investigators are scrutinizing records of visitors to the jail. They want to identify people who met those behind Bijender Yadav's murder. The police are trying to establish whether any such meeting was used to plan, coordinate or facilitate his wife's killing.
Authorities are also examining possible links between Rachna's suspected killers and another individual. This person is currently in prison over another murder in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri in 2024. Reports indicate this prisoner is known to one of the suspects in Rachna's murder.
Search for Evidence and Vehicles
After finding a motorcycle in Rohini that had been used in last Saturday's crime, police are looking for another vehicle. They believe one of the suspects used this second motorcycle to reach Shalimar Bagh. According to sources, two of the suspects fled on one motorcycle after the murder. They then went their separate ways in Rohini to evade detection.
Multiple police teams are scanning CCTV footage from the area. They are checking parking areas, vacant plots and local neighborhoods to trace the second motorcycle. Police say this vehicle could yield vital forensic and electronic evidence to strengthen their case against the perpetrators.
