Delhi Police seizes heroin worth Rs 1.5 crore, 2 held

In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Delhi Police has apprehended two individuals and confiscated a large consignment of high-purity heroin with an estimated international market value of Rs 1.5 crore. The seizure, classified as a commercial quantity under the law, marks a major success for the city's Anti-Narcotics Cell.

Operation Based on Credible Intelligence

The crackdown was set in motion on December 21 following specific intelligence inputs about drug trafficking activities in the Narela area of the national capital. A dedicated raiding team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Gaurav Choudhary. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP Dinesh Kumar and DCP Hareshwar Swami of the North-West district.

Acting on the tip-off, the police team zeroed in on a motorcycle near Samartivan Park Road in Narela. After intercepting the two-wheeler and meticulously following all legal protocols, the officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle.

Seizure and Arrest of Accused Duo

The search yielded a substantial haul of 304 grams of heroin. The two individuals on the motorcycle were immediately taken into custody. They have been identified as Taslim (23) and Salman Ansari (29), both residents of New Seemapuri in Northeast Delhi.

An First Information Report (FIR) was promptly registered at the Narela police station. The case has been filed under relevant sections 21, 25, and 29 of the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police have also seized the motorcycle used in the commission of the crime.

Probe Aims to Unravel Drug Network

Initial investigations have revealed concerning details about the accused. Taslim, who works as a driver, has allegedly been involved in supplying narcotics for a considerable time. His accomplice, Salman Ansari, is a tailor by profession and is reportedly a repeat offender with a prior history of cases registered under the NDPS Act.

In his statement, DCP Hareshwar Swami confirmed that both accused are currently in police custody. He emphasized that the investigation is very much active and ongoing. The primary focus now is to trace the origins of the seized contraband and dismantle the entire supply chain. "Further investigation is ongoing to dismantle the links of the supply chain to identify the kingpins and distributors," DCP Swami stated. This effort is crucial to target the higher-ups orchestrating the drug trade in the region.

This seizure underscores the continued efforts of the Delhi Police to combat the menace of drug trafficking in the capital. Operations like these aim to disrupt the flow of illicit substances and hold those involved, from peddlers to suppliers, accountable under the full extent of the law.
