Delhi Minor Accused of Murder Walks into Police Station Unknowingly
In a startling turn of events in New Delhi, a 17-year-old minor, accused of murdering a 39-year-old man, unknowingly walked into the Mandir Marg police station on Monday. The minor had gone to report the theft of a mobile phone, but police were already investigating his involvement in the crime based on CCTV footage.
Details of the Incident
According to police officials, the incident began when Gulabi Bagh police received information about a body found at the Railway Colony in Subzi Mandi on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Sandeep Kumar Malviya, who had been missing since January 25. The body showed injury marks on the face and neck, indicating a violent altercation.
Police investigations revealed that Sandeep had rented a room in the Railway Colony, which he visited occasionally. It was in this room that his body was discovered. CCTV footage from the area showed Sandeep travelling in an auto-rickshaw with a younger individual, whom police later identified as the minor.
Police Investigation and Apprehension
The image of the minor was shared with the Mandir Marg police station as part of the investigation. To their surprise, the minor himself arrived at the station to report a mobile phone theft. He was immediately apprehended by the police.
Additional DCP (North), Sumit Jha, provided further details, stating, "The 17-year-old said that the deceased had allegedly taken him to a room in Railway Colony and asked him for sexual favours. In response, the boy hit the deceased on the forehead with a gas cylinder and slashed his neck with a broken piece of glass."
Aftermath of the Crime
After the alleged attack, the minor took Rs 2,000, a credit card, and a mobile phone from the deceased. He then locked the room and escaped. Police reports indicate that the minor later withdrew Rs 4,000 from an ATM in Ghaziabad and purchased a new mobile phone worth Rs 14,000.
The case highlights a complex scenario where the minor, initially a victim of alleged sexual assault, became the accused in a murder case. Police are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and understand the full context of the events.
