Delhi Man Shot Dead in Suspected Revenge Killing Near Family Home
In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 29-year-old man was allegedly shot dead near his family residence in south Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar on Monday evening. The victim, identified as Nikhil Naagar, was on his way to his nearby chicken shop in Madangir around 8pm when the attack occurred, raising suspicions of a revenge murder linked to a previous case.
Details of the Attack
According to local residents, two individuals arrived near a temple on a motorcycle. One of them stationed the bike at a short distance, while the other approached Naagar and allegedly opened fire, discharging four to five rounds. Naagar was struck in the back of his neck, and the assailants fled the scene immediately. Bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Background and Family Suspicions
Nikhil Naagar was an accused in a 2021 murder case involving the stabbing death of 19-year-old Kunal near the same location, following a dispute over a common woman friend of Naagar's associate, Gaurav. That case is currently under trial. After being released on bail approximately a year ago, Naagar had shifted to a rented accommodation nearby and taken up employment at a private company. His uncle, Rajesh Naagar (50), revealed that following the death of Naagar's father in January due to a lung infection, he began spending more time at the family's chicken shop. Naagar had also lost his mother previously.
Family members suspect the involvement of three persons seeking revenge for Kunal's death, describing the shooting as pre-planned. Relatives and locals indicated that one individual might have conducted reconnaissance earlier to identify Naagar during the attack.
Family Situation and Police Investigation
The victim's family includes his 35-year-old sister, Nisha, who is married and resides in Shakarpur, and another sister, 30-year-old Naina, who lives at the family home and runs tuition classes for schoolchildren. His 92-year-old grandmother, Ram Devi, and other relatives also occupy different floors of the same house. Premlal Naagar (55), another uncle, expressed uncertainty about upcoming family events, noting that Nisha's wedding, postponed from January to April after their father's death, is now in limbo. The grandmother and sister have been informed that Naagar is undergoing treatment to shield them from the immediate shock.
Police authorities have stated that all angles, including personal enmity, are being thoroughly investigated. A formal case has been registered, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined to identify the accused. The investigation aims to uncover the motives behind this brutal act and bring the perpetrators to justice.
