Delhi Girl's Murder Solved: Accused Trapped After Calling Wife from Hideout
In a significant breakthrough in the murder case of a six-year-old girl in southeast Delhi, police have arrested the accused after he called his wife, who is the child's elder cousin, from an unknown number. The accused allegedly asked his wife to meet him so they could flee together, leading to his capture.
The Trap That Led to Arrest
At the time of the call, the woman was at the local police station along with the girl's relatives. She offered to assist the officers and agreed to meet her husband at a nearby park. Police laid a trap, with officers in civilian clothes, and successfully nabbed the man.
The child's family has alleged she was sexually assaulted before her death. Police have stated that post-mortem results are still awaited to confirm the details of the assault.
A Family's Tragic Story
The six-year-old girl is survived by her parents and three siblings. Her parents, a labourer and a domestic helper, shared their heartbreaking account with reporters on Wednesday. They had moved to Delhi nearly a year ago in search of better opportunities and were living in a rented room.
On February 19, the parents left their two daughters at home and headed to work around 8:30 am. The mother had recently purchased a phone for Rs 19,000, which she often left with the girls to keep them occupied. "She loved watching makeup tutorials and would try them on herself," the mother recalled. Around 3 pm, the elder sister woke up to find the younger girl missing.
Betrayal by a Trusted Relative
The family revealed they had given shelter to the accused when he arrived in the city last November with his wife and two sons. They also helped him find work. In the aftermath of the girl's disappearance, the accused was seen weeping with the family, eating at their home, and even accompanying them to the police station. "Itni sundar bachi kahan chali gayi, pata nahi (I don't know where such a beautiful child has gone)," he cried, according to the family.
The case took a turn when police discovered CCTV footage showing the girl with the accused near his house around 11:55 am on the day of the incident. "He fled after that. He left his phone behind and was not home for a night," the girl's father said, adding that the accused later called his wife from an unknown number.
Gruesome Details Emerge
During police questioning, the accused disclosed that he took the child to an isolated area near a park. There, he attacked her by striking her on the head with a brick and then threw her body into a nearby well.
The girl's mother alleged, "He had lured her to steal the phone, which he sold later. He then sexually assaulted her. When he asked her if she would tell her parents and she said yes, he killed her."
Family Demands Justice
The family expressed their desire for the accused to remain behind bars, noting that even his wife supports their demand for strict punishment. "We could have never imagined someone who was like a brother to her could do this," the mother said, highlighting the deep sense of betrayal felt by the grieving family.
This tragic case underscores the vulnerabilities faced by migrant families in urban areas and the devastating impact of crime on close-knit communities. Police continue their investigation as the family awaits closure and justice for their beloved daughter.
