Delhi Court Grants 8-Day Police Custody for Assembly Complex Breach Accused

A Delhi court on Tuesday remanded Sarabjeet Singh, the man accused of breaching the high-security Delhi assembly complex, to eight days of police custody. Investigators have begun meticulously piecing together the profile and movements of the 37-year-old from Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district.

Disoriented Claims and Family Background

During initial interrogation, Sarabjeet Singh appeared disoriented and repeatedly claimed he was searching for his missing nephew. "I was looking for my missing nephew... someone fed me opium... I don't know what happened," he told officers, according to police sources.

Singh's family, which rushed to Delhi after his arrest, submitted documents indicating he has been undergoing psychiatric treatment. They insisted he has no criminal record and said he had been deeply disturbed since his nephew Harman went missing from west Delhi's Hari Nagar on April 2. Police have confirmed that the missing person claim is genuine.

Originally from Pilibhit's Tarai belt, Singh belongs to a financially stable family with agricultural land holdings, and relatives involved in the transport business. His father, Kulwant Singh, is deceased.

Social Media Profile and Movements

On social media, Singh portrays himself as a businessman, with education linked to Springdale College and a Bareilly-based institution. His online activity also shows:

  • An interest in cars, including videos of the same SUV involved in the breach
  • Posts expressing support for farmers' protests

Investigators say Singh had been travelling across north India, including Punjab and Chandigarh, in what he described as a search-and-prayer journey for his missing nephew. Even after exiting the assembly premises, he reportedly sought out strangers, offering money to be taken to a "high-ranking official" who could help him.

Police Investigation and Security Concerns

While police are verifying his claims, they have found no evidence so far of a larger conspiracy. CCTV footage confirms he was alone at the time of the incident.

Police are now using the custody period to:

  1. Reconstruct Singh's movements in detail
  2. Examine his mental health claims thoroughly
  3. Determine whether the breach resulted from distress-driven behavior or deeper security protocol lapses

Sequence of Events in Delhi Assembly Breach

The incident unfolded as follows:

  • A white Tata Sierra with UP registration entered the Delhi Assembly premises at around 2:11 pm through Gate No. 2
  • The vehicle broke through multiple barricades and security checkpoints
  • Singh, with his face covered, allegedly drove rashly and tried to run over security personnel
  • He stopped near the Speaker's office, placed a bouquet and marigold garland, and fled
  • A city-wide BOLO alert was issued immediately
  • He was traced and arrested within two hours in Roop Nagar

The investigation continues as authorities work to understand the full circumstances surrounding this serious security breach at one of Delhi's most protected government complexes.
