Delhi Court Postpones Hearing in Janakpuri Biker Death Case Over Missing CCTV Report

A Delhi court on Monday deferred the hearing on allegations of "illegal detention" levelled by subcontractor Rajesh Prajapati in the Janakpuri biker death case. This decision came after the police failed to submit the CCTV-based report that had been specifically requested by the court. The matter is now rescheduled to be heard on February 18, marking a significant delay in the legal proceedings.

Court Directs Police to Provide Detailed Account of Events

In a previous order dated February 11, the court had rejected Prajapati's regular bail application. At that time, the court directed the investigating officer from Janakpuri police station to file a detailed reply addressing the detention allegations. The court also mandated that the police provide a complete account of events that occurred between February 6 and February 8, with this account to be supported by CCTV footage. This directive was aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in the investigation process.

Police Cite Technical Constraints for Delay in Submitting CCTV Footage

On Monday, during the court proceedings, the police informed the court that the CCTV footage could not be retrieved due to what they described as "technical constraints." The investigating officer was absent from the hearing, and police representatives stated that while the footage had been preserved, it had not yet been extracted for submission. They assured the court that the footage would be submitted once it is successfully extracted, but this explanation did not satisfy the court's immediate requirements.

Bail Plea of Another Accused Also Listed for February 18

In a separate direction, Metropolitan Magistrate Harjot Singh Aujla also listed the bail plea of labourer Yogesh for hearing on February 18. Yogesh is another accused in the February 5–6 incident that led to the biker's death. This scheduling aligns the legal proceedings for both accused individuals, potentially streamlining the court's handling of related cases. The court's decision to postpone the hearing underscores the importance of thorough evidence collection, particularly in cases involving serious allegations like illegal detention.

The Janakpuri biker death case has garnered significant public attention, and the court's insistence on CCTV evidence highlights the critical role of technology in modern law enforcement. The delay caused by the police's inability to provide the requested report may impact the timeline for justice in this matter, raising questions about investigative efficiency. As the case moves forward, all parties await the submission of the CCTV footage to shed light on the events in question.
