Delhi Police Constables Stabbed While Chasing Offender, Still Make Arrest
Two Delhi Police constables demonstrated remarkable courage in Shahbad Dairy, Outer North Delhi. They sustained stab wounds while chasing a habitual offender but continued their pursuit and successfully arrested the man before collapsing from their injuries.
'This Is My Job, How Can I Help It?'
Head Constable Kuldeep smiled as he spoke these words after being discharged from the hospital on Monday. He and his colleague, Constable Neeraj, faced a dangerous situation while attempting to arrest an alleged habitual offender on Saturday night.
The two policemen were conducting their regular beat patrolling around 9 pm when a local resident alerted them about the offender's presence in the area. They immediately began searching for the suspect in the crowded cluster area.
The Chase and Confrontation
According to police reports, the accused, identified as Ravi (38), was allegedly planning an armed robbery in the area. When the constables spotted him, Ravi attempted to flee to avoid arrest.
'Before we could react, he pulled out a knife and attacked my partner,' Head Constable Kuldeep recalled. 'I felt him hit me too, but I didn't realise he had stabbed me at that moment.'
Despite being stabbed, both constables continued chasing Ravi. They managed to catch him just as he was attempting to pull out a countrymade gun. The policemen had already informed their police station, and backup arrived within minutes.
Realising the Injuries
'It was only when a bystander pointed it out after we made the arrest that I realised I was bleeding,' Kuldeep explained. Both constables were immediately rushed to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital for emergency treatment.
Constable Neeraj suffered three stab wounds, with two blows hitting his uniform belt and the third puncturing his hip. Head Constable Kuldeep received two deep stab wounds near his armpit and on his back.
Protecting Family from Worry
While receiving medical treatment, Kuldeep made a conscious decision to protect his family from unnecessary panic. He refused to let his colleagues inform his family about the incident.
'My mother is frail, and my wife is alone at home with our two children,' he explained. 'The news would have reached them late at night. Hearing that I had been stabbed would have caused them tremendous worry. For us police officers, such incidents are part of our daily work, but for our families, it becomes a very big deal.'
Kuldeep was on his way home after hospital discharge when he spoke about the incident. 'They will find out now, once I reach home. I'll see all their reactions... and bear my wife's anger for not telling her immediately,' he said with a smile.
Criminal History of the Accused
Police investigations revealed that the arrested accused, Ravi, has an extensive criminal record. His first case dates back to 2015, and he currently faces 12 registered cases against him.
The charges against Ravi include:
- Multiple robbery cases
- Carrying unlicensed arms
- Snatching incidents
- House break-ins
According to police officers, Ravi had been working as an e-rickshaw driver before his arrest for allegedly stabbing the constables. The accused now faces additional serious charges for attacking police personnel during duty.
The bravery displayed by Head Constable Kuldeep and Constable Neeraj highlights the daily risks faced by police personnel while maintaining law and order. Their dedication to duty, even while injured, ensured a dangerous criminal was taken off the streets of Delhi.
