Delhi cop averts tragedy in Dwarka gas cylinder fire

A quick-thinking Delhi Police constable is being hailed as a hero after his courageous actions prevented a potential disaster in a residential building in Dwarka. The incident, which unfolded on Saturday night, saw Constable Anil Mahla single-handedly tackle a blazing gas cylinder, averting what could have been a major explosion.

Immediate Response to a Distress Call

The chain of events began when the police control room received a PCR call around 9:39 pm on December 23, 2025. The call reported a cylinder blast in a four-storey building located in the Mohan Garden area of Dwarka. The information was swiftly passed to Inspector Mukesh Antil, the Station House Officer of Mohan Garden police station.

As Inspector Antil rushed to the scene, he alerted the beat staff patrolling the vicinity. Before the PCR van, fire brigade, or senior officers could arrive, Constable Anil Mahla, who was on his beat duty, reached the troubled building.

A Split-Second Decision to Act

Upon entering, Constable Mahla found a domestic gas cylinder on fire inside a kitchen. The flames were spreading rapidly, and thick, toxic smoke was filling the premises. With the building housing 16 families and an immediate evacuation being logistically difficult at that moment, the situation was critical.

Displaying exceptional presence of mind and bravery, Mahla took a split-second decision. Ignoring the personal danger, he moved towards the burning cylinder. He single-handedly pulled the blazing cylinder out of the kitchen to a safer location and managed to douse the flames, preventing the fire from escalating further.

Praise for the Officer's Bravery

Police officials stated that Constable Anil Mahla's prompt and fearless intervention was instrumental in saving numerous lives. His actions ensured that a localized kitchen fire did not turn into a catastrophic event for the entire residential block.

This incident highlights the risks frontline police personnel often face while on duty. The Delhi Police have commended Constable Mahla for his exemplary courage and commitment to protecting citizens, showcasing a shining example of duty beyond the call.
