Dehradun Murder: Mother Among Five Arrested in Public Shooting Case
In a shocking development, police in Dehradun have arrested five individuals, including the mother of the deceased, in connection with the public shooting of a 42-year-old man near the Tibetan Market. The arrests followed a dramatic police encounter and intensive investigation into what authorities describe as a premeditated murder stemming from a massive property dispute.
Dramatic Police Encounter Leads to Arrests
Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh confirmed that the two alleged shooters were apprehended following a brief but intense encounter in the Raipur area early Thursday morning. Rajiv Singh (50) and Pankaj Rana (52), both residents of Dehradun, were intercepted at a police checkpoint based on specific intelligence but attempted to flee into a forested area.
"When police teams surrounded them, the suspects opened fire using country-made weapons," SSP Singh stated. "Our officers retaliated in self-defense, injuring both men in their legs before successfully apprehending them."
Confession and Conspiracy Details Emerge
While undergoing medical treatment at a hospital under legal provisions, both shooters confessed to firing at Arjun Sharma, which resulted in his death. Their interrogation revealed crucial information that led to the subsequent arrests of three additional conspirators later in the day.
The other accused include:
- Beena Sharma, the victim's mother
- Vinod Uniyal
- Dr. Ajay Khanna
Police confirmed that all three had previously been named as suspects in a formal complaint lodged by the victim's wife, Abhilasha Sharma.
Property Dispute Worth Rs 14 Crore Triggered Murder
Investigators have determined that the murder was allegedly motivated by a bitter property dispute involving assets valued at approximately Rs 14 crore. According to police statements, the accused had reportedly struck a deal for the family property without Arjun Sharma's knowledge or consent.
"When Sharma discovered the unauthorized transaction, he approached the court and successfully secured a stay order," explained an investigating officer. "This legal action apparently prompted the accused to conspire and execute the fatal shooting as retaliation."
Manhunt Continues for Absconding Accused
While five individuals are now in custody, police authorities confirmed that efforts remain ongoing to locate and apprehend Sangeeta Uniyal, who continues to evade capture. The investigation team is pursuing multiple leads and conducting raids at suspected hideouts.
"We have deployed multiple teams and are utilizing all available resources to track down the remaining accused," SSP Singh emphasized. "The conspiracy appears to have involved careful planning, and we are committed to ensuring all responsible parties face justice."
The case has sent shockwaves through the Dehradun community, with residents expressing concern about the brazen nature of the daylight shooting in a public area. Police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary measures to maintain law and order while the judicial process unfolds.
