Dehradun Man Allegedly Beaten to Death with Baseball Bat by Friends
In a shocking incident in Dehradun, a 28-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with a baseball bat by his friends, who later buried his body in the Chidiyapur forests in Haridwar, according to police statements on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Dingbar Dhiman, had been missing since February 9, prompting a frantic search by authorities that ultimately led to the grim discovery.
Case Unfolds Through Taxi Driver's Arrest
The case came to light when police, while investigating Dhiman's disappearance, traced a taxi driver who had transported the body for disposal. Acting on this crucial lead, authorities recovered Dhiman's body from the forest. The taxi driver, Rajanandan Thakur, a resident of New Patel Nagar, has been arrested for his role in concealing the crime. Police revealed that Thakur's interrogation provided key details about the incident.
Background of the Victim and Disappearance
According to reports, Dhiman was accused of allegedly raping a minor and had attended a court hearing with his father on February 9 for the case against him. After receiving the next date from the court, he told his father to go home, assuring him he would return later. However, he never made it back. Dhiman's father filed a missing person report on February 11, initiating a widespread search operation.
Investigation Reveals Drug Links and Missing Companions
During the investigation, police discovered that Dhiman's friends, with whom he often consumed drugs, had also been missing from their homes since his disappearance. This raised suspicions, leading teams to activate an informant network to gather information about Dhiman and his missing companions. Authorities questioned families and nearby residents, learning that one of the missing friends, Hemant Semwal, had left his room in Racecourse C-Block on the night of February 9 in a taxi.
CCTV Footage and Driver's Confession
Using CCTV footage to track the vehicle, police detained and interrogated the driver, Rajanandan Thakur. During questioning, Thakur revealed that Semwal and his companions had placed a man's body, wrapped in a blanket, in his taxi and buried it in the Chidiyapur forest. Thakur further stated that on the way, the accused told him they had gotten into an argument with Dhiman while drinking and accidentally hit him on the head with a baseball bat, resulting in his death.
Police Response and Ongoing Search
Superintendent of Police (City) Pramod Kumar commented on the case, saying, "Separate teams have been formed and sent to possible locations to search for the accused involved in the incident. All the accused will be arrested soon." The police are intensifying efforts to locate the remaining suspects, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and their commitment to justice.
