Daltonganj: Couple Shot, Robbed of Rs 3 Lakh in Bike Attack

Couple Targeted in Daring Daylight Robbery in Daltonganj

In a shocking incident in Daltonganj, a 42-year-old woman and her husband were brutally attacked by bike-borne miscreants on Monday, resulting in the woman sustaining bullet injuries to her thigh and her husband being assaulted. The assailants robbed the couple of Rs 3 lakh in cash, a laptop, and other important documents before fleeing the scene, leaving the victims hospitalized but out of danger.

Details of the Attack

The victims, identified as Shama Parveen and her husband Israfel Ansari (52), were traveling on a bike from their home in Barwadih to Hutar, where Shama operates a customer service point (CSP) for Bank of Baroda. Approximately 200 yards from their CSP, two masked men on another bike intercepted them. The attackers first struck Israfel in the forehead with the butt of a pistol, causing him injury, and then snatched a bag containing the cash. As they made their escape, they fired six rounds, two of which struck Shama in the thigh.

The couple was immediately rushed to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital in Daltonganj for treatment. Medical officials confirmed that both are stable and out of danger, though they are recovering from the traumatic experience.

Investigation and Statements

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. DSP Rajeev Ranjan noted that the miscreants had their faces covered, suggesting the crime was premeditated. He assured the public, "They will be nabbed soon," emphasizing the police's commitment to solving the case swiftly.

On the financial aspect, Sneh Darshi Singh Ravi, the senior manager at the Bank of Baroda's Daltonganj branch, stated, "We are looking into the matter. Shama had not withdrawn any cash from the Daltonganj BoB branch on Monday." This statement raises questions about the source of the stolen money, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.

Broader Implications

This attack highlights growing concerns about street crime in the region, particularly targeting individuals associated with financial services. Key points from the incident include:

  • Violent Robbery: The use of firearms and physical assault indicates a brazen and dangerous criminal act.
  • Targeted Victims: Shama's role as a CSP operator may have made her a specific target for the robbery.
  • Community Impact: Such incidents can erode public trust and safety, prompting calls for enhanced security measures.

As the investigation continues, local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The police are analyzing CCTV footage and other evidence to track down the perpetrators and prevent similar crimes in the future.
