In a late-night operation, police in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district successfully apprehended a wanted criminal linked to a cow slaughter case following a dramatic encounter. The arrest of the accused, who was carrying a cash reward on his head, marks a significant breakthrough for the local authorities.

Late-Night Operation Leads to Encounter

The incident unfolded around 11:45 PM on Thursday near the Narhi Karo road. A team from the Narhi police station was conducting routine checks of suspicious vehicles and individuals. During this vigilance drive, they signaled a person to stop for questioning.

Instead of complying, the individual, later identified as Fazal alias Kariya, attempted to flee the scene. The police team immediately gave chase, leading to a confrontation. An exchange of fire ensued between Fazal and the pursuing officers. In the shootout, Fazal sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg.

Criminal History and Reward Revealed

The injured accused was quickly secured and admitted to Sadar Hospital in Ballia for medical treatment. Upon investigation, his criminal background came to light. Fazal was a wanted accused with a reward of Rs 25,000 announced for his capture.

Ballia ASP (South) Kripa Shankar stated that Fazal was involved in an incident of taking bovine animals for slaughter. A case was registered against him at the Narhi police station under the Sections 3/8 of the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act and Section 11 of the Animal Cruelty Act.

Illegal Weapon Recovered, Legal Process Underway

Following the arrest, the police conducted a search and made a critical recovery from Fazal's possession. They seized an illegal pistol of 0.315 bore. The recovery also included one empty cartridge and one live cartridge, providing material evidence from the encounter.

The accused remains under medical supervision at the hospital. The police have confirmed that further legal proceedings are being initiated in the matter. This arrest highlights the continued police action against crimes related to animal cruelty and illegal slaughter in the region.
