Namita Thapar, a successful entrepreneur and a judge on Shark Tank India, recently opened up about a deeply personal aspect of her life, using her experience to spread awareness about infertility. In a candid social media post, she shared her journey with IVF, highlighting the emotional strain and the critical need for better fertility education.
Failed IVF and Emotional Turmoil
Thapar posted a video on her social media account, accompanied by a heartfelt message: “I have gone through 2 failed IVF & I can assure you that this is a time where not only emotions, trauma but also misinformation & ignorance runs high. People need to get educated. In a country where 57% women have iron deficiency, this is an important test prior to an IVF attempt.” She emphasized the importance of proper testing and education to combat misinformation surrounding fertility treatments.
This is not the first time Thapar has spoken about her difficult pregnancy. She has always been vocal about her struggles with a second pregnancy after an easy first one. She revealed undergoing two failed IVF treatments and battling depression. “The emotional and physical pain I went through was immense,” she admitted. After giving up hope, she eventually conceived naturally, calling it a miracle.
Speaking Out on Shark Tank India
On Shark Tank India Season 2, Thapar shared her feelings when entrepreneurs presented a home IUI kit designed to help couples facing infertility. She said, “In my case when I was 28 years old I wanted to get pregnant and in 2 months I conceived and had a normal pregnancy and after that, for 3 to 4 years I tried and I couldn’t conceive. I have gone through 2 infertility treatments and those 25 injections and the emotional and physical pain that I went through. Even the taboo things that keep your legs up, crossing your legs and I already have kids but imagine the parents who don’t have kids. After two attempts I gave up and said that I am happy with one child. But then a miracle happened and I conceived naturally.”
She added, “Apparently, the memory stayed with me and for 10 years I couldn’t talk about it publicly even on my YouTube channel I couldn’t as it was taboo to speak, a scar but 6 months back I spoke about infertility with the doctor and stayed up all night thinking if I could go public about this. People did support me and said it's private and why do you wanna talk about it? But then I listened to my heart and for the first time I spoke about it and have written about a particular thing in my book.”
Inspiring Others
Thapar’s courage to share this private chapter years later inspired many to speak openly about infertility and emotional healing. Her story resonates with countless individuals facing similar struggles, encouraging them to seek education and support rather than suffer in silence.
